Our office took part in this restricted competition for the construction of an extension to the Henri Schmitz Sports Centre in the Lankelz district of Esch-sur-Alzette, organised by the Esch-sur-Alzette.. 13 applications were submitted and 7 offices were selected in the first round, including ours.

Our project revolves around a large foyer which is the focal point of the ensemble and serves all the rooms and spaces throughout the site. One can circulate freely and easily find one's way around as it functions as a distribution gallery. It includes three mezzanines that serve as meeting places but also as access to the bleachers. The second room of major importance is the double sports hall (extension) in a row which offers training tracks for athletics. This space can be converted into six parts by means of removable curtains which multiply the possibilities of use. On the ground floor, a space called "pavilion" is directly accessible from the double sports hall through an access lock. It includes a brasserie and a terrace with a view of the park, as well as the city sports department on the first floor. A large forecourt at the main entrance welcomes or shelters the sportsmen in case of rain. An underground car park with a capacity of 135 spaces is available for visitors and affiliates. In addition to the changing rooms on the ground floor, a space is provided on level 1 to accommodate associations, and a large room is designed on level 2 to accommodate martial arts and boxing. As far as energy is concerned, all the necessary arrangements for AAA energy classification without compromising aesthetics are made. It is planned to have large solar panels on the roofs. Moreover, the construction or finishing materials used are either biosourced or cradle-to-cradle labelled depending on availability and geographical distances.
